Megan raised over £346.20 for Help4Harvey

Today Megan did a sponsored swim to help raise money for Harvey who lives in Fareham. Harvey will soon be travelling to St Louis for SDR.  Before SDR Megan could not swim on her front but today she swim for 35 minutes on her front and raised over £346.20.  A big thank you must go to Doreen and her sister Joyce who asked for sponsor forms and they collected most of the money raised.  :)  Here are some of the lovely comments people have made on the SDR face book group.  She's already had over 88 'likes'

Great work Megan ,you are an inspiration.

Well done, Megan

Film about SDR in St Louis

St Louis Children's hospital have made a series of programmes regarding the amazing surgery they perform there - one of the operations being SDR.  I have included the episode which can be found under links/videos.  It does not include Megan but does show a picture of the collage that was donated to Dr Park from Megan's Quest.

Documentary re SDR

A little while back a guy contacted me from Bournemouth University and asked for my permission to use some before and after clips of Megan as he was making a documentary regarding SDR.  Obviously I agreed to this and he has very kindly sent me the short film he has made and it includes Megan (very briefly!!)  The film can be found under Links/Videos on Megan's website. :)

More fund raising for Megan!

I'm sure everyone remembers the terrible events that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School in the USA where 20 children and 6 adults sadly lost their lives.  Dylan Hockley, aged 6, had only lived in the USA for 1 year when he was killed.  Before going to the US he lived in Eastleigh.  There is a big fund raising event at the end of June at the Hub in Bishopstoke and Megan has volunteered to help.  Dylan was diagnosed with autism so they are raising money for the Hampshire Autistic Society.  Although all of Megan's fund raising has been for cerebral palsy or SDR we did feel a connection

SDR Party

At the weekend we went to our second SDR party in Daventry. Dr Park and some of his amazing team flew over as well.  Megan had a very special treat as her favourite physio from St Louis came as well.  We met so many lovely families and I couldn't believe how many people knew who Megan was from her video.  Dr Park told Megan she was an inspiration :)

Update

As you know Megan's physio pre SDR was horrendous.  She had to do physio pretty much every day for up to an hour and regardless of the relentless physio Megan never improved.  Megan's physio has now been GREATLY reduced but she still needs to do some stretching exercises - particularly in the hip area as she spent years prior to SDR leaning forward when walking.  She also has some strengthening exercises to do.  Megan does have a tendancy to moan when we do her physio but she is always very good for other people.  As we cannot afford to pay the private physio rate we paid when she returned

Wanted to share this lovely message

I received this lovely message today - it makes me realise how worth while all her video's are.  Someone also recently asked on the SDR facebook group how people heard about SDR and Megan's video was mentioned quite a few times - in fact one person said they came across Megan's video when researching cerebral palsy on youtube and the family were from Lebanon and that's what inspired them to look further into SDR.  Fortunately the SDR was successful and they were the first family from Lebanon to have SDR - it makes you realise how amazing the internet is.  Anyway, back to the message I recei

Update

Really proud of Megan today. Her swimming improved dramatically after SDR but since starting secondary school in September she stopped swimming. She is taking part in a sponsored swim in Southampton in April to help raise money for a boy who is having SDR in St Louis this year so I thought she had better start swimming again. To my amazement she swam for 25 minutes without stopping and it was the fastest I have seen her swim - where did that come from?!!! :)

More fund raising for Megan

Megan will be taking part in a sponsored swim at the Quays in April.  It is to help raise money for a boy called Harvey who lives in Fareham and will shortly be off to St Louis for SDR.  Its a lovely thing for Megan to do as before SDR she could not swim on her front, despite 6 years of swimming lessons :)
